Kumasi, Dec. 5, GNA - The Professional League Board (PLB) has brokered a peace towards the settlement of the impasse between Kessben and Obuasi AshGold Football Clubs.
The settlement followed a meeting held with the management of the two clubs by the PLB Chairman, Welbeck Abra-Appiah at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
Mr Kwabena Kesse, Chief Executive of Kessben and his AshGold counterpart, Cudjoe Fianoo attended the reconciliation meeting. The fifth week Glo-Premier League match between the two Ashanti Region- based Premier sides at Abrankese which was won 2-1 by Kessben sparked violent clashes between their fans.
Plastic chairs at the Anane-Boateng stadium were destroyed by irate fans while a bus of AshGold was also damaged. Mr Abra-Appiah said the Board decided to mediate to help stop further violence and troubles between and from the fans to ensure the success of the league.
Football, he noted hinges on unity and therefore it is important for the two Clubs and their followers to put the past behind them and be at peace. The PLB Chairman advised Club officials to educate their supporters to put up good behaviour during football matches and said the Board would not hesitate to mete out appropriate sanctions to indiscipline officials and supporters who misconduct themselves. Mr Kesse and Mr Fianoo pledged to ensure that the two Clubs live in peace and harmony.
