Soccer fans express mixed reactions to Black Stars list

Tepa (Ash), May 15, GNA - Soccer fans in and around Goaso and Tepa in the Ashanti Region on Sunday reacted to the final list of 23 players of the Black Stars named by Coach Ratomir Dujkovic for the World Cup. Some of the fans were not happy with the inclusion of certain players they described as 'drainage players' whom they said will only be in Germany to drain the resources of the team.

Others also criticized the coach for excluding players they thought could have positive impact on the fortunes of the Stars.

Most of the people interviewed by the GNA Sports could not comprehend the absence of players like Baba Amando, Charles Taylor and Aziz Ansah with particular preference for Amando.

According to the fans, notable among the 'drainage players' in the squad were Addokwei Pappoe and John Painstil who they perceived as not quite impressive anytime they appeared in the national team.

Other fans however, saw the action of the national coach as in the right direction, since he is the head of the technical team and must have drawn up the list in consultation with other soccer experts. The fans said that what is needed presently is for the technical bench to put their acts together, prepare the team very well to build their confidence and for all Ghanaians to support the team with their prayers.

They said that even though the final selection seemed an ad hoc measure, they are looking forward to Ghana making history in her maiden World Cup appearance.
