Zito urges club managements to develop football academies

Kumasi, July 24, GNA 96 Abdul Karim Zito, Head Coach of Kumasi King Faisal Football Club, has charged administrators and the management of football clubs in the country to strive to develop high-class football academies for the accelerated development of the sport. In an interview with the GNA Sports in Kumasi on Saturday, Coach Zito said due to inadequate football academies in the country, it had made it difficult for more talents to be tapped and developed to an appreciable standard.

He said the recent goal-scoring problem facing the country, which was also exhibited at the just ended 2006 FIFA World Cup, could be attributed to the 'poor foundation the players had in their career development'.

"They find it difficult to adhere to basic techniques and tactics on the field of play since they are unable to translate into play instructions given to them by their coaches", he noted.

The former Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Gomoa-Fetteh Feyenoord Academy Coach said it was high time football administrators refrained from blaming coaches for the non-performance of their teams.

"!They should rather institute pragmatic structures that are aimed at building a good foundation and to motivate local coaches for the total development of the game", Coach Zito said . He was not happy that local coaches were looked down upon by some football administrators; a situation, which he said, affected the ability of local coaches to perform to expectation.

"This discrimination should stop since some local coaches have the expertise and experience than some of their foreign counterparts=94, he told the GNA Sports.

Coach Zito, who spoke on a wide range of issues, predicted a successful campaign for King Faisal in this year's Premier League campaign.

"I have sharpened all the rough edges in my team and hope to cause another upset this year=94, he added.
