Zambia to pull surprise as they take on Cameroon

Kumasi, Jan. 25, GNA - The Zambian National team, the Chipolopolo has vowed to upset the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon as they come face to face in the second round of their "Group C" match to be played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday.

Inspired by their 3 - 0 victory over Sudan in the opening match on Tuesday to lead the group, Coach Patrick Phiri said they were really determined to meet the Cameroonians squarely to maintain their lead. Speaking to the GNA Sports in Kumasi, the Zambian coach said that the team's strategy of attacking from all angles worked to perfection in their first match and were determined to sustain the trend in their next two matches.

Coach Phiri said while the Cameroonians boasted of some accomplished players in Samuel Eto'o Fils and Mamoudou Idrisu, they would rely solely on their team work and commitment to finish among the top four countries in the tournament.

"Even though we have not won the Cup before, we believe the Ghana 2008 soccer fiesta presents a fine opportunity to showcase to the world the quality of Zambia football."

The Indomitable Lions, who lost 2-4 to the Pharaohs of Egypt, have also given the assurance of silencing the Zambians.

Coach Otto Pfister of Cameroon said they were going into the match with all seriousness and win at all cost.

Sudan, who was defeated 0-3 by the Zambians, would also meet Egypt in another encounter at the same venue.

Sudanese Coach, Mohamed Abdallah, told the GNA Sports that in spite of starting slowly, his team was capable of beating the Egyptians and to go ahead to qualify to the next stage of the competition. "We have studied them and their style of play and believe that my men are capable to containing them in all departments of the game," he said. Even though coach Abdallah would not predict the score line, he was optimistic that they would win convincingly against the Egyptians and, therefore, called on their supporters to rally solidly behind the team to ensure victory.

Egyptian midfielder, Mohamed Zidan, who was voted the MTN Man-of-the-Match in their first match, also believes his side would not encounter the stiff opposition they faced in their match against Cameroon.
