Zambia dropping points spurred us to beat Sudan- Gyan

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan says Zambia’s draw with Lesotho served an extra incentive in the 4-0 demolition of Sudan in their 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

The Black Stars walked onto the pitch against the Nile Crocodiles on Sunday with foreknowledge main rivals Zambia had dropped points with a 1-1 draw at Lesotho.

Goals from Gyan, Mubarak Wakaso, Abdul Majeed Waris and Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu sealed an emphatic win before a packed crowd at the Baba Yara Stadium.

The crucial win saw Ghana move within one point behind the Chipolopolo in second place in Group D.

Gyan revealed Zambia’s stutter in Maseru handed his team an extra lift before taking to the field against Sudan.

“We knew Zambia had drawn with Lesotho so it really inspired us to beat Sudan,” the Al Ain striker said.

“We are very happy for this win, it takes us closer and we hope to continue like this.”
