Yeboah quits Hamburg for the Gulf

Ghanaian veteran Tony Yeboah is leaving Hamburg after a four-year stint with the Germans to join Qatari outfit Al-Ittihad Sports Club, the north German side announced Tuesday.

Yeboah, 35, has signed a contract through to next May after terminating his Hamburg deal which ran to the end of June.

"He terminated his contract with us on December 10 and can leave immediately to play for his new club," said Hamburg general manager, Bernd Wehmeyer.

"I like it in the Gulf. Playing football there will be super," said former Leeds and Eintracht Frankfurt striker Yeboah, who will be under Austrian coach Josef Hickersberger at Al-Ittihad.

Yeboah has only been on the fringes of the Hamburg first team this season, starting just two matches, and has also been the subject of a tax investigation which brought him a fine last January of some 160,000 dollars.
