"Wrong" Congo Flag Hosted @ Kumasi

Political upheavals in Cote d'Ivoire conspired to ensure that the Ivorian Match Commissioner for the Kotoko-AS Police first leg African Cup Winners semi-final did not show up.

Match Commissioner Kone Ardiouma failed to pick up his PTA as instructed by the Ghana Football Association, and subsequent efforts to locate new flights to Accra never materialised.

Following his inability to fly to Accra Nigerian referee Chukwujekwu Chukwudi took over as match commissioner as per Confederation of African Football rules and his actions right from pre-match on Saturday showed that he perhaps was cut more for a match commissioner than a referee.

At kick off time on match day he instructed that the Ghana flag be brought down after the Congolese had officially and strongly protested the hoisting of the flag of Congo Democratic Republic (Kinshasa) instead of Congo Republic (Brazzaville).

Not amused about the failure of Ghanaian officials to hoist the right flag he insisted that the Ghana flag should also be brought down after the DR Congo flag had gone down.

After the game, Match Commissioner Chukwujekwu Chukwudi reportedly blasted Kotoko officials for not ensuring that the departure of officials and players of AS Police was smooth. Police men on duty had a hectic time controlling an excited crowd as the vehicles carrying the two groups left the stadium and it took them close to one hour to escape the excitement of the Kotoko victory.
