Work At Kaladan Park At a Stand Still

Construction works at the Kalandan Park in Tamale has come to a halt as a result of non-provision of funds, Mr. Gabriel Yaw Missodey, Northern Regional Organizer of the National Sports Council (NSC) has revealed.

He said the government had not provided funds for the contractors working on the project and this had led to the delay in completing the rehabilitation of the park.

Speaking with the GNA Sports in Tamale, he said the project was awarded to Parks and Gardens, which had no sufficient money to execute the project.

He said about 200 million cedis was needed by the contractors to complete the project adding that if funds are provided immediately the project would be completed before the second round of the Premier League.

Mr. Missodey said he had held talks with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, which pledged to release funds for the completion of the project in due time.

Meanwhile the Management of Real Tamale United (RTU), has expressed dissatisfaction about the delay of work at the Park.

Mr. Adam Munkaila Nassam, Vice Chairman, said animals were now gracing on the pitch further degrading it and called on the appropriate authorities to come to the aid of the park by providing the necessary funds for its completion.

He said the "home away home" matches were impacting negatively on RTU both on their performance and finances of the club.

He appealed to individuals and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to pool resources to assist the club to purchase a vehicle.

He said the only vehicle which the club has been using is more than 13 years old which gives them problems when the club is embarking on a long distance to honour matches.

Mr. Nassam also called on the Ministry of Youth and Sports to take a second look at the "home takes it all situation" to help the smaller clubs survive in the league.

The Vice Chairman also appealed to Ghana Football Association (GFA) to make it mandatory for all regions to have representation in the Premier League to unearth hidden talents in the rural areas.

He said "the non representation of some regions in the Premier League is a disservice to the development of football in the country" it is not reasonable for some regions to be represented by more than one club while others were without any club".
