"Wonder Club" to perform wonders

Olympics to finish in Top Four - Wellington
Accra, March 11, GNA - Bottom club, Accra Great Olympics are poised to enact their wondrous status and finish among the top four by the end of the current season.

Tagged the "Wonder Club" of Ghana football, because of some incredible achievements, which dishonoured the form guide in the past, the management of the Accra club, which was also referred to as "the third force of Ghana football" say the magical moments are in the offing and Olympics will be a winsome side when the second round begins.

Samuel Wellington, a management member who is responsible for finance and administration said management had identified the hurdles responsible for the clubs' poor results and had instituted a machinery to remove them and set the club on a new pedestal to compete vigorously for honours.

He said the poor run was the result of poor recruitment by the former technical staff and the lack of commitment from some of the key players who could have carried the team on their shoulders.

The Director of Finance said with the cordial relationship that exists between the Board, the Management and the players, he was surprised that some of the players had failed to give off their best. "We don't owe any player in salaries or bonuses and we feel that they are motivated well enough to die a little for the club but this has not been the case."

He said the only alternative left for the club was to offload some of the players onto the transfer market while new ones are recruited to prosecute the "Dade Agenda" of a respectable end to the season. Wellington said the technical team had identified 15 crack players who will be recruited to fight for positions in the team, adding that only in-form and committed players would wear the blue and white jerseys of Great Olympics.

He said the fixtures for the second round would favour Olympics to redeem their image and achieve their goals as 11 of the 15 matches will be played in Accra, with only four taking them outside the capital. The management member singled out the Board chairman, Amarkai Amarteifio, and a Director, David Fugah for praise, adding that the two had been alive to their responsibilities and had been in constant touch with management and the playing body, offering moral and financial support.
