Women's soccer to be organized in Eastern Region

Koforidua, Feb. 26, GNA - A seven-member implementation committee has been formed to begin a regional women's soccer league in the Eastern Region.

The Committee under the chairmanship of Nana Kwame Boadu of Akwatia was formed after the representatives of the 11 women football clubs in the Region decided to start a regional women's soccer league this year to ensure the commencement of the league.

Briefing the GNA Sports after a meeting of the committee at Koforidua on Thursday, Mr Benjamin Fio, secretary of the Committee said March 15 to April 30 has been scheduled for the registration of clubs and players of the various clubs that agreed to participate in the league.

He said during the registration period, the clubs would be expected to inform the committee of the colour of their jerseys and the venue s for their home grounds.

Mr Fio said it is expected that the first regional women's soccer league in the Eastern Region would take-off by the middle of May, this year.

Meanwhile, the team manager of Suhum - based Free Max Ladies Football Club, Mr Franklin Asare Oduro, has appealed through the GNA to all ladies in and around Suhum interested to join the club to register at the office of the Sports Council at the Suhum Community Centre.
