Wise Fighters hold Vipers

Cape Coast, Nov 13, GNA - Sekondi Wise Fighters on Sunday played a spirited game to hold Cape Coast Venomous Vipers to a pulsating 1-1 draw at their home grounds in their Zone 2B Division One League match played at the Robert Mensah sports stadium.

Wise Fighters who occupy the top of the League table with 12 points, were shocked with an early goal scored in the 13th minute against the run of play by midfielder Kweku Duah. The early goal gave Vipers the tonic to probe for more goals but their forwards, led in attack by Duah, wasted a number of begging chances to the dismay of the partisan home fans. From the 25th minute onwards, Wise Fighters gradually warmed themselves into the game and launched series of attacks in goal area of their opponents and rightly got the equaliser in the 40th minute through inside right Richard Harley.

Both teams struggled hard in the second half to carry the day, but they failed to net the till the end of full time. Other results were Cape Coast Mysterious Dwarfs lost 0-1 to Sekondi Metro-Star, Great Odupong were hammered 0-3 by SAMARTEX and Windy Professionals also fell 0-2 to Tarkwa Real United. In another development, visiting Denkyira United defied the massive support of Cape Coast Astronomers to trounce them 3-0 in their Division Two League match also played at the Robert Mensah Sports stadium on Saturday.

After a goalless first half, the visitors came back strongly and scored the opener in the 50th minute through centre half Kobena Acheampong.

The home side hit back strongly, but their hope of drawing level were dashed when United netted two rapid goals through Abass Sema Baba and Acheampong to seal the doom of the Astronomers. Other results were Saltpond Kampsite drew 1-1 against Mankessim Mighty Victory with Cape Coast Liberty Rainbow bowing 1-2 to Elmina Coconut Sharks.
