Wigan Eye Keeper Kingson

Kingson is currently unattached after having his Birmingham City contract cancelled in the close season. Kingson was unhappy at being labelled as a "complete waste of space" by the club's chairman David Sullivan, and sought to have his terms written-off by mutual consent.

The 30-year-old is on international duty this weekend in Tripoli, where the Black Stars of Ghana are being hosted by Libya in a World Cup/Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

Wigan sanctioned a deadline day deal for reserve goalkeeper Carlo Nash to join Everton, leaving the custodial position at the JJB understocked.

As such, Bruce, who brought Kingson to England from Ankaraspor in Turkey during his stint in charge of Birmingham, has once again targeted the 'keeper as a potential signing.

Bruce informed the press that he expected to hold talks with the man who claimed the best goalkeeper award this year's Africa Cup of Nations next week.

"Kingson is the no.1 goalkeeper for Ghana and we're hoping he will join us," he told the Wigan Evening Post.

"At the moment he's with Ghana - they're playing in Libya this weekend, so he should be coming to see us next week.

"He hasn't got a club at the moment and we're allowed to bring in out-of-contract players.

"We need three goalkeepers, and make no mistake, if I hadn't got him lined up, I wouldn't have let Nash leave."
