We’re ready for the new league start – Police

The Ghana premier league has been noted for its pocket of hooliganism during league matches and this act has got some fans and the stadia that witness these violence name tags as ‘no go areas’ and it is such canker the security service has assured fans of handling them.

The Ghana football association recently announced February 20 as the league commencement date to the 2015/16 league season. The league has been dormant since the 2014/15 season ended on September, 13. The premier league boarded headed by the new chairman, Ashford Tetteh Oku are yet to announce the security plans for the various stadia as has been the norm in the previous administration.

But Chief Inspector Opare who is in charge of the operations and SWAT unit of the Ashanti Regional police unit has outlined the plans for the police team that are deployed to protect both fans and state properties at the various league venues.

“One of the issues facing us as security at the various stadia has to do with refereeing decisions. We will entreat all referees who are assigned to officiate matches to be free and fair so we (stakeholders) can avoid any unforeseen incidents at league centres.

Then the journalist who refuse to wear their tags around their neck but try forcing their way into the stadium – in the outside world (Europe) it is not so why is ours always so’ he told Kumasi-based, Boss 93.7 fm.

“As professionals, we’re well-trained to handle such challenges not forgetting it is also our duty to maintain peace and order.We’ll ensure nothing happens and even if there’s a little margin of error we’re well equipped to handle it, he added.
