We did not play to instructions – Myles

Captain of Ghana’s U 20 female team, the Princesses, Mercy Myles, has cited tactical indiscipline as the reason for the humiliating 4-0 loss that the team suffered in their World Cup opener against the United States on Monday.

Myles told the GNA Spots in Hiroshima, “there are many reasons why we lost the game, but the main reason is that we did not play according to instructions. “The Coach has his style and during the qualifiers we got used to that style, but we got here and did the contrary, which definitely led us astray,” she said.

The Princesses who conceded an early first half own-goal before picking three others from their net after the recess, were according to the captain, undone by the flow of the goals.

“We were very frustrated because we conceded an own goal very early in the game and that affected our spirit. Before we could settle the second goal was in, then the third and the fourth,” she revealed.

Ghana is making a second appearance at the biannual global gathering which they exited as debutants in Germany in 2010.

The Princesses pitted in Group D alongside the United States, Germany and China, are representing Africa alongside the Falconets of Nigeria, who were runners up at the last event.

Ghana will attempt to qualify out of the group when they come up against Germany on Thursday in a do-or die affair, to salvage their image.
