We Don't Have Money to Host Ghana - Zambia

WE don't have money to host the Ghana under-23 national team, Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) spokesperson Frank Kangwa said yesterday.

And sports minister Gladys Nyirongo insisted that FAZ needed to sort out their mess.

Commenting on government's decision to stop funding FAZ, Kangwa said the association cannot do without the state's support.

"Definitely, we will need government's support because the fact is that we don't have money," he said.

Kangwa said FAZ needed a total of K60million for the Saturday game.

He said K43 million was needed to accommodate the Ghanaians and another K7 million for officials who will handle the game.

He said another K10 million was needed for accommodating the Zambia under-23.

"The K10 million is minus allowances for players," he said.

"The game has to be played. It's definitely going to be there but we need the money," he added.

Government has withdrawn from funding FAZ until the association puts its house in order.

But the Zambia under-23 on Saturday plays Ghana in a 2004 Olympic qualifier at Independence stadium.

The Ghanaians are expected in Zambia tomorrow morning.

Nyirongo said she believed the association had the capacity to administer football.

"I don't have anything really to say about that. I can't start talking about FAZ's bankrupcy because I believe they have the capacity to administer football without government's funding," she said.
