Waris strike to help Lorient progress

Ghana striker Abdul Majeed Waris scored the opening goal for Lorient in their dramatic 3-2 victory over Tours in the Coupe de France on Sunday afternoon.

The Black Stars forward raced his side in front after he converted a penalty kick in the 26th minute.

Ibrahima Tandia pulled parity for the visitors in the 50th minute before Romain Philippoteaux restored the lead for the host.

Haris Belkebla’s equalizer for Tours was not enough as Benjamin Jeannot scored the match-winner for Lorient in extra time to progress to the next round of the French Cup.

Waris who recently returned from suspension lasted the entire game for his side.

The Ghanaian international has now scored goals in nine appearances for the French Club.
