Waris plays in Lorient’s draw with Montpellier

Abdul Majeed Waris has still not been able to score in Ligue 1 as he fired blanks in Lorient’s 2-2 draw with Montpellier on Saturday.

The striker was on throughout but could not open his league account after he scored from the spot in a 3-2 loss to Rennes in the French Cup on Wednesday.

Lorient needed a win to get themselves out of the bottom of the table and Senegalese defender Zargo Toure gave the hosts the lead on 16 minutes.

Sylvain Marveaux doubled the lead for Lorient minutes later but the visitors got back into the game when the hosts conceded in first half added on time via Senegalese Souleymane Camara.

Morgan Sanson scored the equaliser with an assist from Benin’s Stephane Sessegnon.

The draw left Lorient bottom of the log with seven points after 11 matches.

Waris has still not scored a league goal this season, a fact that does no good for his national team chances as coach Avram Grant will expect his best players to hit top form ahead of next month’s 2018 World Cup qualifier against Egypt.
