French Ligue 1 side Lorient have included Ghana forward Abdul Majeed Waris in their 18-man squad to face Bastia on Sunday.

The 23-year-old arrived at Lorient on a 3-year-contract from Turkish side Trabzonspor but could not play in Lorient’s season opener due to paperwork.

But after completing eligibility documentation, manager Sylvain Ripoll has included him in his line-up to face Bastia at the Stade Yves Allainmat – Le Moustoir.

The former Spartak Moscow forward expects Lorient fans to rally behind the team as they gear for an improved season on the back of a poor campaign from last season.

“We will need them throughout the season. We also need to offer a good show. We’ll be together all season. We will give the best of ourselves to be 100%,” he told Lorient website.

Expectations are high for the former Right to Dream Academy graduate who netted 9 times in 16 league matches for relegated Valenciennes two seasons ago.

Waris is expected to fight for his place in attack as Jeannot, Togolese Gakpa and Moukandjo are all vying for starting spots.
