Wa All Stars clash with Ash-Gold in finals of Otumfuo Cup

Kumasi, Aug. 28, GNA - Wa All Stars and Obuasi Ashanti-Gold Sporting Club on Friday emerged winners in their respective matches in the semi-final of the Otumfuo Charity Challenge Cup tournament at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi to advance to the grand finale scheduled for October, this year.

All Stars defeated Kumasi Asante Kotoko 4-2 on penalties after the two teams drew 0-0 in regulation time while Ashgold thrashed Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club 3-1 to set the stage for a crucial final match between the two teams.

In the first match of the day, All Stars were more purposeful in attack and occasionally threatened the goal area of the Porcupine Warriors but strikers Frank Sowah and Mike Boakye squandered the glorious chances that came their way in the 36th and 42nd minutes, respectively.

The second half of the game was more exciting as the two teams stepped up their game but good defensive display from the two teams denied them from scoring until the match was decided on penalties which went in favour of All Stars as they beat Kotoko 4-2 in the kicks to the disappointment of their teeming supporters.

In the second match of the day, the much-fancied Hearts failed to live up to expectation as they allowed Ashgold to dictate the pace of the game and it came as no surprise as the latter beat them 3-1.

Goals from Frederick Quayson, Mohammed Aminu and Jonas Frimpong in the 33rd, 56th and 59th minutes, respectively, were all that the Obuasi-based Club needed to overcome Hearts, the GHALCA Top Four champions.

Hearts' Hamza Mohammed scored a consolation goal for his side in the 70th minute.
