Vorsah still unfit for next game

From William Ezah, GNA Special Correspondent, Johannesburg, South Africa

Johannesburg, June 24, GNA - Defender Isaac Vorsah will have to remain on the sidelines in the next stage of the competition, after missing the two games against Australia and Germany.

This is because he has still not recovered from a hamstring injury he sustained, compelling coach Rajevac to look at another option. Coach Rajevac paired deputy captain John Mensah and Jonathan Mensah in central defence in the last game against Germany and could be considering the same set when the Stars meet United States of America (USA) on Saturday. Coach Milovan Rajevac confirmed this at a press conference on Thursday, saying the well built central defender will have to remain on the bench when Ghana takes on USA on Saturday, because he is not fully fit.

"I'm sorry for him, because he will not be part of the team for the next game. It has not been easy for him, but the medical team is giving him the best of treatment.

"He is a good player, because he can play in two positions. He can play in central defence and join Annan in midfield as well, but we don't have to risk him.

"Vorsah must be given time to recover. May be he will be in a good condition to play in the quarter finals if we qualify", Coach Rajevac said. Coach Rajevac was, however, full of praise for Jonathan Mensah, saying the 2009 FIFA Under-20 World winner proved his merit in the game against Australia, hence the decision to offer him another opportunity.

"I was satisfied with his performance, because he is a defender with a lot of strength and can run throughout the game", he stated.
