Violence Prone League Centres to Be Boycotted

The Suhum Kraboa Coaltar District branch of the Referees Association of Ghana (RAG) on Thursday threatened to boycott all notorious division three league centres in the district if adequate protection is not given to them.

Mr Michael Adjei, district chairman of the RAG was speaking to GNA Sports at the end of the four day Basic Schools Sports Festival at Coaltar Secondary Technical School park.

He said some third division league centres have become rowdy and unsafe for referees. Local people who were supposed to provide security to protect referees in most cases turned to support their home teams in attacking referees.

He also expressed regret at the non-payment of allowances to referees in the district as well as difficulties in getting transportation to league centres to handle matches. Mr Adjei suggested to RAG to extend the best referees award to include that of division three referees.
