Van der Pluym excited for champions

Dutchman Hans van der Pluym is in bliss over the form of Chelsea, hailing his Berekum based side as playing now like the champions that they are.

Van der Pluym took over from the sacked Englishman Steve Pollack with the champions having gained just 5 points from their opening 4 league games.

The former Heart of Lions coach, a huge fan of attacking football, has supervised over three league games since with Chelsea taking home maximum points on all occasions. It has meant that the champions have pushed up the table to second spot, just a point behind leaders Asante Kotoko.

Last Sunday, Nigerien sensation Mohammed Musa who had to wait several weeks before getting work permit clearance to play in the Glo Ghana Premier League, took just 47 seconds to announce himself. His well struck goal is not only the fastest this term, but was one that the defending champions defended to the hilt to claim the maximum points.

van der Pluym is basking in the joy and ecstasy of the hardwork and commitment to the club’s cause by his entire group of players.

He told ALL SPORTS: “They really played as champions, they worked for each other throughout and I’m very excited for them. That is what we have to do, work very hard as a team and we will be alright. It’s very competitive out here between my players but I like the competition because it makes us only stronger.”

The Chelsea coach however is not predicting a winning run, insisting that he is still getting to know the team well.

“Nobody can look into the future like that. Injuries, yellow cards and suspensions can interrupt. We cannot do so many things within a short time. It’s step by step and I think in the end we will achieve our targets.”
