U17 World Cup: Ghana Face Brazil

Ghana's Black Starlets come face to face with destiny in the knockout phase of the ongoing FIFA U-17 championship when they cross the path of their Brazilian counterparts in Gwanayan in Korea today.

Arguably, the Black Stars' successive defeats to their Brazilian counterparts in recent months seem to have psyched the Ghanaians up to breath vengeance in tomorrow’s clash.

Tactically, the two have proved a force to reckon with, despite suffering shipwrecks in one of their group games.

Considered as the most successful side in the FIFA U-17 level, having won the competition in Egypt (1997), New Zealand (1999) and Finland (2003) the Auriverdes (Brazilian team) seem richer by way of records.

Yet Coach Luch Nizzo Antonio and his charges will not have things on the silver platter as the Ghanaians equal victories over the South Americans in their four meets makes the showdown highly uncompromising.

The 1991 squad comprising charges as Alex Opoku, Emmanuel Duah, Isaac Asare, Sebastian Barnes, Emmanuel Gargo, Nii Odartey Lamptey, Kelvin Essien, George Owu, among others defeated the South Americans counterparts at the quarter final stage in Italy.

The Brazilians bowed again to their Ghanaian counterparts in Equador when Coach Sam Arday guided Emmanuel Bentil, Bashiru Gambo, Abu Iddrisu, Awudu Issaka, Nana Attakorah Amanianpong, Baba Suley, goalkeeper Michael Abu and others to lift the trophy for the second time in 1995.
The Coach Sellas Tetteh-led side who seem to be finding their rhythm as the showpiece progresses will be expected to strengthen the heart of the game to provide more scoring options for strikers Ransford Osei, Sadick Adams and Ishmael Yartey who have scored four goals so far,
