Two sports journalists die in accident

Two sports journalists riding on a motorbike were killed Monday when a Mercedes Benz bus ran into them in the Ashanti regional capital of Kumasi in Central Ghana, local media reports said here Tuesday.

Journalists Kofi Yesu and Kwabena Peprah, both radio sports presenters at the local Nkosoo FM station, were en route to work to present the morning sports programme when the accident occurred.

Their bodies have been deposited at the Konfo Anokye Teaching Hospital mortuary for autopsy, the reports said.

The reports quoting eyewitnesses as saying the driver of the Mercedes Benz bus was speeding to escape a mobile police team, which was in hot pursuit, when he ran into the journalists at a traffic light, near the Kumasi Zoo.

Meanwhile, the police have mounted a search for the driver who escaped the accident scene, a police spokesman from the Ashanti Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Unit said.
