Two referees expelled from Premiership

Accra, Oct. 9, GNA - The Professional League Board (PLB) has axed two referees from the lists of Premier League referees citing their abysmal performance in the One Touch Premiership.

The duo, Stephen Oduro and Kwao Sampson's services, according to the PLB are no longer needed in the five-week old competition. The two are Class One referees.

Referee Oduro's performance in the second week game involving Bofoakwa Tano and Real Sportive was described as lackluster. A release signed by Mr. K. Ampim-Darko, Deputy General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) copied to the GNA Sports said referee Oduro lacked stamina which kept him far away from the action spot, whereby infringements that were committed went unnoticed. 'By your performance, it was evident that you lacked confidence'.

It said in view of his lackadaisical performance, the PLB has recommended to the General Secretary that he be put on ice until such a time that the Referees' Committee decides to try him in another match. Referee Sampson was accused of giving a series of inconsistent decisions and exhibiting poor stamina in the week four duel involving Bofoakwa Tano and Tema Youth.

His performance was said to have nearly marred the game drawing protests from both teams and the spectators.

Meanwhile another referee, Kofi Gyasi has been asked to find his confidence or get fired.

The referee was said to have shown lack of courage in the second week game involving Accra Hearts of Oak and Gamba All Blacks where he was not courageous and failed to stamp his authority on the match. The PLB warned that a repetition of such a mediocre performance will lead to the cancellation of his name from the list of Premier League referees.
