Winneba to celebrate Aboakyir on May 4

The Tufuhene of Effutu Traditional Area, Neenyi Siripi has, in consultation with the two Asafo companies, fixed May 4 for the celebration of this year's Aboakyir Festival.

Supi Kobina Osukor, leader of the Tuafo Asafo Company, who announced this at a traditional council meeting at Winneba at the weekend, said it was the sole prerogative of the two companies - Tuafo and Dentsifo - to give a date for the celebration.

He said for the past six years the Paramount Chiefs had been proposing dates for the festival, adding that in 1997, 1999, 2000 and 2001 when the Omanhene fixed the dates without involving the Asafo companies, the celebrations were marred.

He assured both the regional and district security councils that this year's festival would be peaceful because the two companies had agreed to plan the various activities together.

Supi Osukor appealed to the President to intervene to solve the Winneba chieftaincy dispute, which had retarded the development of the traditional area.

Neenyi Gyankumah V, Adontenhene of the area who chaired the meeting, appealed to the government, public-spirited individuals and companies, as well as citizens of Winneba, to assist in ensuring a successful festival.
