Tough Return Leg For Kenya in Ghana

The Kenya national under -17 team manager Ampher Apidi yesterday predicted a tough return leg match against former world champions, Ghana, in the Africa Youth Championship qualifiers in Kumasi on January 12.

Apidi, however, said they will go for goals right from the first whistle in a bid to improve on their 2-0 win in Nairobi.

"The best method to defend is to attack and that's what we are going to do. We will however, do it very cautiously, considering that they will be at home, " he said.

Apidi said they are analysing their first leg encounter on video clips with a view of identifying their opponents weak points.

The team of 25 players and four officials led by coach Tom Olaba reassembles today for a two week residential training at the Moi International Sports Centre (MISC), Kasarani.

Ghana who won the under-17 world title in Italy 1991 and Equador 1995, have daunting task of qualifying for the next stage as they need to beat Kenyans by a 3-0 margin. Kenya team is expected to travel to Kumasi on January 10 for the match.

The team: - Francis Ochieng', Abdul Rahaman Ali, Raphael Omondi, Calvin Otieno, Kevin Oluoch, Godffrey Kokoya, Isaac Odhiambo, Kennedy Opiyo, Kevin Odongo, Christopher Liswa, Boniventure Misiko, McDonald Mariga (captain), Zacharia Kisekeli, Hilary Omondi, Hassan Aden, Anthony Katana, Wilson Anyona, Joseph Waweru, George Karanja, Aggrey Ongoli, Joshua Ademba, Hesbon Odhiambo, George Odari, Samuel Kivui and Kevin Simiyu.

Officials : Tom Olaba (head coach); Ampher (team manager); Yusuf Kienzi (assistant coach) and Mohammed Guhad (team doctor).

Meanwhile, Langata Boys succumbed to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Makina Rangers in ongoing Kiko Cup soccer tournament match at Harlequin ground yesterday.

Makina opened the scoring in the 30th minute through Ali Yunis. Langata's Nicholas Okuku drew level in the 44th minute to end the first half 1-1.

Omar Abdallah scored two quick goals in the 52nd and 56th minutes to catapult Makina to victory.

In another match, Abbakar Omar scored in the 11th minute to give Olympic strikers a deserved 1-0 win over Guadelo- upe at the same venue.

Kakamega United drew 2-2 with Magic Eleven in an under-14 category match at Harlequin.

Wilson Lora and Patrick Kariuki scored for Kakamega while Sabit Mohammed and Salim Bashir replied for Magic.

The tournament continues today with 10 matches lined up at various venues.

In the senior' category, Bedjos meet Villa Sports and Forza face off with Black Stars at Woodley. The matches kick off at 1.30pm and 3.30pm respectively.
