Top scorer Baffour calm about Ghana prospects

Emmanuel Baffour bagged a brace for to take his goal scoring record in the current Glo League to an incredible 11 goals in 11 games and declared he will be thrilled to get a call up from Ghana boss Goran Stevanovic.

The New Edubiase striker has had less publicity this season than the likes of Ahmed Toure and Mahatma Otoo at Kotoko and Hearts of Oak respectively but he has outshone everyone else where it matters most: on the field of play.

His double on Sunday gave Edubiase a 2-1 win over Aduana Stars but beyond lifting the side to within three points of leaders Aasante Kotoko, the double is bound to propel Baffour's name in a week when Ghana boss Goran Stevanovic is set to name his squad of 23 players for the Nations Cup.

And with Ghana bereft of goal scoring talent, Baffour's goal per game this season is bound to get endorsement all round. But he is playing it cool. "I can't force a call up", he said after his brace. "If I get it then I would be very happy because I feel I am in great goal scoring form."

Baffour, a former Liberty Professionals and Tema Youth striker, says his fantastic return this season is down to consistency in training but he has refused to set a target for how many goals he wants to score this season.

"That would be piling up the pressure on myself. I can't say how many goals I will score. I want to be able to go into a match and just simply play well and help my team win."

Baffour has been the outstanding goal scoring player of the current season. His 11 goals is five better than the player closest to him in the goal scorer's charts, Louis Agyemang, who has scored seven.

Kotoko's Ahmed Toure is on six goals, while a trio of players, Nathaniel Asamoah of Asante Kotoko, Chelsea's Emmanuel Clottey and Seidu Bancy have five each.
