Top 4: Liberty beat pip King Faisal

Kumasi, Feb 1, GNA - Dansoman - based Liberty Professionals chalked a surprising 1-0 victory over sensational Kumasi King Faisal Football Club in their Coca-Cola Top Four Tournament played at the Kumasi Sports Stadium on Sunday.

The only goal of the match was scored by substitute Mark Amofah in the 74th minute.

Playing virtually in an empty stadium, both teams played as if there was nothing at stake and continued to squandere the chances that came their way with Faisal being the main culprits wasting easy scoring chances that came their way in the 26th, 28th and 31st minutes. Liberty who had packed up their defence also had a chance to score in the 40th minute but Asamoah Gyan's shot was parried to corner by goalkeeper Suraju Mohammed.

On resumption of play for the second half, Faisal made two quick changes by bringing in Ben Wilson and Godwin Ablordey for Kwabena Poku and Owusu Ampong and they nearly found the leader but Wilson's shot was saved by Patrick Antwi in goal for Liberty in the 47th minute. Faisal took control of the game and made series of incursions into their opponents goal area but they could not find the net.

Liberty brought in Amofah for injured Asamoah Gyan who quickly announced his presence with a classical goal in the 74th minute that turned out to be the match winner.

Eric Gawu of Faisal was adjudged the best player and was presented with Coca-cola products, a T-shirt and a mobile phone.
