Thierry Henry hails Andre Ayew’s early exploits

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has touted Swansea’s Andre Ayew as the signing of the summer following the 25-year-old’s early exploits in the English Premier League.

The deputy Ghana captain joined the Welsh side from French outfit Marseille in June on a four-year deal.

With three goals and an assist to his name in four matches, Ayew has proved himself as one of the season’s best performers early in the campaign, earning rave reviews from several quarters.

“It is great to see Stoke City get players like Xherdan Shaqiri, but I think the signing of the summer could be Swansea’s Andre Ayew,” Henry wrote in a column for The Sun.

“They got him on a free from Marseille and he is really good.

“He will score goals, is not a typical winger, will get into the box, and is lethal in the air even though he is not tall.”

Ayew scored on his competitive debut in Swansea’s opening game of the season as the Jacks held Chelsea to a 2-2 stalemate at Stamford Bridge.

He followed up with a goal against Newcastle United, before scoring and providing an assist as his side came from behind to defeat Manchester United 2-1 at the Liberty Stadium on August 30.

For his part, Henry, an erstwhile Fifa World Cup winner with France in 1998, is Arsenal’s all-time top scorer with 228 goals, for which 175 came in the Premier League. He also ended his career as France’s all-time top scorer with 51 goals.
