Tetteh gets nod for make-or-break month

Sellas Tetteh will take charge of Ghana’s four World Cup qualifiers in June after the GFA failed to meet its deadline of naming a substantive coach for the period.

The GFA had hoped to name Claude LeRoy’s long term successor before Ghana take on Libya, Lesotho, and Gabon home and away but have back tracked on that reasoning that the new coach will have difficulties familiarizing with the side in time for the qualifiers.

Tetteh took charge of Ghana’s 0-1 loss in an international friendly on Friday against Australia but must now take charge of the more important games that could make or unmake Ghana’s 2010 dreams.

Currently in charge of the U-20 team, Tetteh will hope to bring several years of experience gathered from the youth team and during spells as assistant to Ratomir Dujkovic and Claude LeRoy to bear on his new role.

The move will also thrill local coaches and retired Ghanaian footballers who have been vociferous in their demand for Tetteh to be handed the job.

But the GFA has made it clear the arrangement is by no means permanent.

"The two coaches; Sellas and Kwesi Appiah-will take charge until a substantive man to replace Claude Le Roy. We are still searching for one and when we find one, he will take-over," GFA boss Kwesi Nyantekyie said.
