Techiman City striker Stephen 'Akilibobo' Manu has hit out at the club's board of directors, insisting that the sacking of former coach Yussif Abubakar last June eventually led to their relegation.

Techiman were in forth position after five games, finishing the first-half of the season within the top-half of the log. However, they struggled throughout the second round and were condemned to relegation on final day following a 4-0 defeat to Berekum Chelsea, finishing 14th on a 16-team log.

"We started the league very well under coach Yussif Abubakar. He was really doing a great job and it got to a point where we were placed fourth on the league table but because of some people's egos, he had to leave," Manu told Silver FM.

"In fact, his departure cost us and due to that we had to be relegated. The decision taken by the board was something unacceptable to many including me. It was not the best and they should have known that it would change our direction. I'm not happy with what they did.

"This is because no serious club will part ways with a coach who is performing so well. The coach joined us only few days before the start of the season but his record was very impressive even in such a crucial moment," he added.

Goal understands that although Techiman have been relegated, they have a pending protest against Berekum Chelsea which could alter the current standing.
