Team performed below average- Coach Sackey

Saitama, Aug. 27, GNA – The head coach of the Black Princesses, Robert Sackey says his charges played below average after the team took their final bow at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup without honour after losing their third consecutive match 0-1 to China at the Saitama Stadium on Monday.

The Princesses exiting the competition pointless and blank in attack conceded six times in three games to finish at the foot of Group D after losing 0-4, 0-1 and 0-1 to United States of America (USA), Germany and China respectively.

Coach Sackey told GNA Sports in a post match interview, “my players played to my expectation because they came out here to play except that things did not work out as expected.”

In another contracting answer to a question about his assessment of the performance of the team, he said “I think we could not get the work done and we will go back to work harder. I think they came out to play. It’s not like they did not do their best and for that reason, I think they were a little below average”.

The coach said “I take responsibility for everything. I do not want to say things that will put the spirit of my players down and for that matter, I take responsibility for everything".

The Princesses also failed to go past the group stage on their maiden appearance in 2010 in Germany and have to return homw and prepare for another opportunity to make it count and improve on their performance.
