Taylor is free - GFA

The Ghana Football Association has explained that Charles Taylor would be free to play for any club of his choice after paying the fine imposed on him for his breach of contract with Accra Hearts of Oak and serving the four-month ban.

This is in line with an advice it received from FIFA's Head of Player Status Legal Service which said," once the period of suspension is elapsed, the player should be able to continue his career, with no further compensation being due to his former Club."

The advice to the GFA followed its consultations with the FIFA organ regarding what to do in the event of its fines being paid alongside the other sanctions.

The GFA, in its consultations wrote to the Player Status Legal Service that it had imposed a heavy fine on the player to serve as deterrent to others and also to ensure the maintenance of contract stability. It said the amount is payable to Hearts of Oak.

It further stated that " the new club the player wants to join has also been fined as it is presumed that the club induced the breach."
