Tamale SOS wins Under-13 boys soccer competition

Koforidua, July 19, GNA - The National Milo Schools’ Sports Festival held in Koforidua came to an end on Tuesday with SOS, Tamale emerging as winner of the Under-13 boys’ soccer competition.

The Tamale lads would thus represent the country at the second Milo African Championship which would be hosted by Ghana.

SOS Tamale beat Bolga Nariga 3-0 to become winners at the end of 70 minutes of play.

The Tamale school were presented with a cash prize of GH¢2,000, Gold medals, a trophy, educational materials, Milo products and training kits.

Bolga Nariga also received GH¢500, Milo products, silver medals and educational materials for emerging second.

Twifo Praso who placed third were presented GH¢100, Milo products, bronze medals and educational materials.

At the Regional Under-15 girls competition, the Ashanti Region won the first position, followed by Central Region at the second position with the Northern Region placing third.

At the Senior High School boys’ soccer event, Atweaman Senior High School from the Eastern Region came first, they were followed by Jukwa SHS from the Central Region at the second position with Tamale SHS from the Northern Region coming third.

In other games, Mfantsipim from the Central Region came first in the basketball competition followed by Koforidua Secondary Technical from the Eastern Region at the second position with Ghana Secondary Technical School, Takoradi from the Western Region taking the third position.

In Volleyball contest, Fiaseman Senior High School from Western Region came first followed by Bole SHS, Northern Region at the second position and Asin-Manso SHS from the Central Region picking the third position.

Individual athletes were also awarded for excelling in their events and for showing their talents.

Ms Benedicta Naada Biney, Acting Director General of Ghana Education Service (GES), congratulated the athletes for excelling in the competition and challenged those who fell short in their performance to train harder for a better performance next time.

She said the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service would continue to partner Nestle Ghana Limited in talent identification and development.

Moataz El Hout, Managing Director, Nestle Ghana Limited, said the company had enjoyed a brilliant working relationship with the GES with its promotion of the strategic course of developing and promoting sports at the grassroots level alongside enhancing education in the country.
