Effiduase (Ashanti), 17Nov 1998 - The Sekyere East District Directorate of Education has organised a quiz at Effiduase for girls in first- cycle schools to encourage girl-child education and also sensitise parents on the need for girl education in the district. Otuo Acheampong JSS toped with 12 points.

The competition was jointly sponsored by the district assembly and Integrated Social Development Centre (ISODEC).

Twelve Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) from the four circuits took part.

Miss Comfort Bannor, of Otuo Acheampong JSS, came first with 42 points, Miss Anita Osei Agyemang, of Effiduase SDA JSS second with 39 points and Miss Adelaide Ampomah of Effiduase Methodist JSS, third with 33 points. They were presented with travelling bags, ball pens and dictionaries as their prizes.

Mr E. Kwaku Darku, Sekyere East District Co-ordinating Director, said this is the first of a series of activities planned by the assembly to promote girl-child education.

He said the assembly has provided five million cedis for another competition which involves Sekyere East, Asante-Akim North and Ahafo-Ano South districts.

Mrs Mavis Anim-Addo, the District Director of Education, urged the pupils to strive to represent their schools in such competitions and to take their studies seriously.
