Swissair Gives Towards Award Night

Swissair on Friday presented 17 silver trophies to the Sports Writers' Association of Ghana (SWAG), towards its delayed 26th awards night scheduled for Saturday, September 1.

The ceremony, originally slated for the first quarter of the year, to award 19 deserving sports men and sports women for their outstanding Performances during 2000, had to be pushed back due to sponsorship problems.

The sportsmen and women include Osei Kuffour of Hearts of Oak, as footballer of the year, Aziz Zakari, male athlete of the year, Vida Anim, female athlete of the year and team of the year, Accra Hearts of Oak.

Mr Bodo Von Alvensleben, General Manger of the Swissair, called for greater co-operation between the company and SWAG to move Ghana sports forward.

Mr Joe Aggery, Out-going President of SWAG and now Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports said the awards ceremony is the only way the association shows its appreciation for the achievements of the sportsmen and women.

He urged both the airline and SWAG to build closer relationship to lift Ghana sports as the greatest on the continent.
