Supporters praise Stars

Hohoe, (V/R) March 28, GNA - Soccer enthusiasts at Hohoe in the Volta Region have acclaimed that the national football team the Black Stars may soon be playing teams from other "celestial bodies" as their present form could not be matched by existing teams on earth. Their enthusiasm stems from the Stars superlative performance against the Samba Boys of Brazil in Tuesday's international friendly in Stockholm, Sweden in which the Brazilians pipped the Black Stars by a solitary goal.

The fans contended that the score line did not matter though but for them, and that Brazil agreeing to play the Stars in a friendly only gave the premonition that the national soccer team was gradually carving a niche for itself when global football was concerned.

They said by addressing the little pitfalls at the attacking and back lines, "the heavens would be the limit".

Mr Alorvi Pele, a soccer fan told the GNA Sports that even with the exclusion of Star's skipper Stephen Appiah, midfield dynamo of Chelsea fame Michael Essien and Asamoah Gjan who featured barely six minutes in the match, the outcome would have been different.

That notwithstanding, he said the Stars dazzled the Brazilians and played well as they made up for the absence of the key players. Mr Mawuli Adjavon appealed to President John A. Kufuor to use his "magic influence" intervene to lobby Salou and Prince Abeyie, the two Ghanaians plying their football trade in Europe to rescind their decision and join the Stars soon.

He said he has the belief that such a gesture among others would leave the team and its handlers with many options to consider while addressing the striking disability of the Stars.

Mr Musah Fatau praised Allah for the new focus, understanding and dedication to duty by the team and its technical handlers and asked for more laurels for the team.
