Sulley Muntari, Pimpong dropped

BLACK Satellites head coach, Anthony Kwabena Edusei, has dropped Sulley Muntari and Razak Pimpong completely from his plans as the team gears up for the Africa Youth Championship in Burkina Faso next January.

The two players who featured for the nation in the last edition of the championship were being considered in order to beef up the team since they are still eligible to feature age-wise.

But according to the coach, he is yet to hear from them as he finalises preparations for the competition.

“Since there are no automatic choices in the team, we have to close that chapter and consentrate on the materials at our disposal”, he explained. He, however, revealed that some foreign-based Ghanaian players have expressed their desire to come down to justify their inclusion in the team before the final 22 is named.

Though he did not disclose the names of the players, he expected them to report in the next few days to allow for a thorough assessment.

Coach Edusei hinted that the final list will be released by next weekend. He expressed the hope that the Satellites would engage Mali and Burkina Faso as well as some local teams before their final departure in late December. Currently, the team is undergoing restructuring at the National Sports College, Winneba, with the number of players now trimmed to 27.

The Satellites have been drawn in a tough Group B of the upcoming U-20 Championship alongside, Morocco, Egypt and Cote d’Ivoire
