Starlets Set For Europe, America

Ghana?s BlacK Starlets will intensify their preparation for the Under-17 football World Cup with a four-week training tour of Europe and America.

They will enter Peru a week to the commencement of the September16 to October 2 tournament.

The team is expected to leave for England in the first week of August to camp for the World Cup. During that period, they will play the junior teams of five clubs, including the Premiership?s Chelsea, Middlesbrough and Everton.

They will then head for the United States for a week?s stay.

According to Ghana Football Association (GFA) Management Board member, Mr Fred Pappoe, the Starlets will not return until after their campaign in the South American country.

?The tour is expected to toughen the players and provide them ultimate concentration for Peru,? Mr Pappoe said.

Currently camping at the C.K. Gyamfi Sports College at Winneba, the Starlets have worked with local oppositions in training games since arrival from their silver-winning campaign at the Africa Championship in The Gambia last May.

?They will benefit from games European and American opponents to give them some idea about what to expect in Peru,? Mr Pappoe said.

The Starlets will play China, Costa Rica and the host nation in Group A at the World Cup.

Ghana will campaign at the world stage for the first time since winning bronze in New Zealand in 1999
