Squad For Lesotho Game Out

Milovan Rajevac’s squad for the 2010 World Cup qualifier against Lesotho reflects what many consider to be Ghana’s weakness but the 24-man squad is short on the radical changes that had been predicted.

The Serbian has stuck to a lot of the players he used for the game against Libya but there are significant new names in the striking department which has long been deemed the Achilles heal of the side.

Asamoah Gyan is still out injured but the Serbian has turned to another hero of Ghana’s 2006 world cup qualifying Matthew Amoah in his bid for more cutting edge. Amoah is back in the goals again after his switch from Borussia Dortmund and has scored four goals already in three games for NAC Breda to add to the eleven he got last season.

Prince Tagoe who scored twice in four world cup qualifying games is back after missing the match in Libya through injury. The biggest casualty of that poor game is Quincy Owusu Abeyie who has lost his place in the squad to Moussa Narry who has been a regular in the last weeks for the French side.

But there are no wholesale changes. Harrison Afful, John Paintsil, Sulley Muntari and Junior Agogo who all had stinkers in Tripoli and triggered talk of radical changes are all in the squad.

Liberty Professionals duo of Yaw Antwi and midfielder Daniel Yeboah who has been in good goal scoring form in the Top 4 competition is the only new name in the local contingent. All the other four locals called up were in the squad for the Libya for the Kotoko game even though none of them played a part.

They include the Kotoko trio of right back Samuel Inkoom and strikers Kwadwo Poku and Eric Bekoe. The other player in the frame is Emmanuel Agyemang Badu of Berekum Arsenals.
