Sports Minister never discussed bonus slash - GFA

Black Stars Management Committee Chairman, George Afriyie, claims the Sports Minister Nii Lante Vanderpuije has promised not to interfere with the decision on how much the Black Stars should be paid as winning bonuses.

Vanderpuije upon his appointment has been highly critical of the Stars' $10,000 bonus, claiming it is not sustainable and irrational to pay the same amount for Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifiers.

But, after his recent meeting with the GFA, Afriyie insists the tough talking Sports Minister did not inform him of any decision by government to slash the Stars bonuses.

“I had a chance to meet the Sports Minister. We’ve had some discussions but nowhere in our discussions with him where he said that he was going to slash the bonus. He has not said that to me,” Afriyie told Starr Sports.

“He even went further to say that when it comes to the decision of who fixes the winning bonus, he leaves that with the GFA and that he has not come to be fixing bonuses, pay $1,000 or pay $2,000. He said that. I know that for sure,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Sports minister has promised an unflinching support for the team on Thursday.
