Three BNI Personnel Suspended

Personnel of the Bureau of National Investigations who took part in the seizure of the vehicles from the residence of the former vice President, Professor Atta Mills have been suspended pending further investigations into the matter.

Government spokesperson, Kwabena Agyapong said that the National Security Adviser, the Interior Minster and the BNI Director were not informed about the exercise. According to him the intelligence report, which informed the operation did not even mention the fact that vehicles to be seized were at the residence of the former vice President.

Mr. Agyapong said observations over the past one year seems to suggest that there is a deliberate ploy to embarrass the government in the execution of some security operations. Both the National Security Adviser and the Interior Minister have apologised to the Mrs. Naadu Mills. Mr. Agyapong says he personally conveyed apologies from President Kufour to Mrs Mills.

The revelation that the Heads of the country’s security agencies were not aware of the operation has raised questions about the lack of co-ordination within the country’s security apparatus. Mr. Agyapong thinks otherwise. “ I don’t think it is there is lack of co-ordination,” but said that is why there is an investigation to ascertain the reasons behind the operations.
