Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood has resolutely defended his Ghanaian striker Jordan Ayew insisting the summer signing will need time to settle in the English Premier.

The Claret and Blue boss has come out in full defence of the talented star in the wake of criticism from a section of the English press after just three matches in the tough league.

Sherwood says he has no regrets signing the Ghana international despite the striker not scoring after three matches in the English top-flight.

Ayew, son of legend Abedi Pele, joined Aston Villa from French side Lorient for a transfer fee of £10m which has led to pressure on the young lad to hit the ground running.

The attacker, who bagged 12 goals in 31 games for the French side last term, was dropped for last Saturday’s 2-1 defeat against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park after failing to score in his first two appearances against Bournemouth and Manchester United.

Despite the shaky start, Sherwood says he has confidence and faith in the Ghanaian youngster.

“He’s fine. He’s a happy boy,” Aston Villa boss Sherwood said when asked about the progress of the 23-year-old.

“I think he’s moving out of the hotel soon because he’s found a place to live which is going to help in his off-field life.

“He’s a good lad. He’s going to take time to settle.

“I’m not disappointed with him at all.”

Ayew is likely to be played on Saturday when they host Sunderland.
