Satellites to Present Trophy to President

Following the Black Satellites triumphant victory at the just ended FIFA under- 20 tournament in Egypt, the World Champions will on Monday October 18, 2009 display the world trophy in a float on the principal streets of Accra.

According to the Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association, Ransford Abbey who disclosed this exclusively to Peace News, the Satellites will use the platform to unveil the trophy to all Ghanaians who had supported them physical and spiritually to achieve this feat.

Ransford Abbey said, the float will begin at exactly 10am from the M-Plaza hotel at Ridge in Accra where the team is lodging. From there they will pass through the streets of Maamobi then heads toward Nima through the Ring Road then to the Kwame Nkrumah Circle to Adabraka and finally through the Accra High Street and move straight to the government’s seat at the Osu Castle where they will present the trophy to President Mills.

Meanwhile, just after the satellites victory a committee headed by Mr. Kojo Bonsu which includes management members of the Football Association was set up by government to plan and overlook a series of events that the team will have to embark on to commemorate the victory.

The Regional tour will be embarked on by the team but according Ransford Abbey the committee is studying the Glo Premier league Calendar so as to outline a suitable series of programme for the tour which will be outdoored soon. “The National Security Council and top police officers have mapped up adequately security measures to protect the trophy and the float” he stated.

The exciting Black Satellites clinched the title of world champions after a nail-biting penalty shoot out victory against the Brazilians in the final in Cairo, which ended 4-3, despite being reduced to ten men in only the game’s 37th minute. The Black Satellites is the first African Side to win the trophy since its inception.
