Satellites Knocked Out!

GHANA'S NATIONAL U-20 soccer side failed to qualify for the African youth championship (AYC) after a 4-5 loss in a penalty shootout to their Burkinabe opponents

The Black Satellites overturned a 1-0 deficit to the Young Stallions in Burkina Faso in the first leg a fortnight ago, with a similar scoreline in regulation time. Kojo Asamoah scored the only goal at the Sunyani Coronation Park with some 10 minute left.

The Satellites, however, failed to convert two of their penalties and thus will not make it to the African youth championship. This also means Ghana will miss out on the 2007 world cup.

The AYC will be hosted by Brazzaville, Congo from January 20 to February 4 in Congo with the top three teams representing Africa at the 2007 FIFA World Youth Championship in Canada.
