Sacred Heart JSS wins football trophy for keeps

Akim Oda, June 11, GNA - Defending champions, Akim Achiase Sacred Heart Junior Secondary School (JSS) on Thursday, beat Akim Asene Arthur JSS 4-2 on penalties to win the Oda District Inter-Private Schools football championship trophy for keeps.

After holding their opponents to a goal-less drawn game within the 90 minutes of an exciting match, Sacred Heart converted four of their five penalty kicks while Arthur JSS managed to score only two of their kicks.

Emmanuel Mensah, captain of the winners was voted the best player of the tournament and was presented with cash and a certificate. In the JSS Girls Netball division, the Sacred Heart JSS also beat Akim Oda Hecta JSS by 3-2 in the finals to lift the trophy at stake. In the Primary Schools Girls division, Sacred Heart again defeated Hecta 3-2 to win the trophy.

Hecta JSS played a determined game to beat Achiase Christo Asafo 4-2 on penalty kicks in the Primary boys football division to win the trophy.

All the winning teams and their runners-up were presented with cash and certificates.

Speaking to the GNA Sports later, Sir Joseph Aquaah-Hayford, Executive Director of the Sacred Heart Institutions said apart from academic work, the institution attached importance to sports development.

He said last year, the school scored 100 per cent in the Basic Examination Certificate Examination (BECE), adding that it also often offers scholarships to students who excelled in sports.
