SIC supports 2008 SWAG match

Accra, April 15, GNA - The State Insurance Company (SIC) on Tuesday, presented a check for GHC 10, 000 to the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG). The presentation is in support for the 2008 SWAG match between Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Obuasi Ashantigold on Sunday, April 20, at the Baba Yara Stadium.

The match, which will be in honour of Mr Henry Plange Nyemitei, a patron of SWAG is also to raise funds for the Association. Mr Peter Osei-Duah, Managing Director of SIC said his organization was anticipating an improved performance from the two teams, since they were in the best of shapes. "We saw a very competitive game between the two sides the last time they played at the Len Clay Stadium and we are of the opinion that they will give us an exciting match on Sunday," Mr Osei-Duah stated. He said SIC was committed to the organization of the annual SWAG match and plans were in place to make the event a four club competition.

According to Mr Osei-Duah, SIC is also considering a brand new cup for each SWAG match adding that, it forms part of their plans to improve the competition.

Mr Ackah Anthony, President of SWAG expressed appreciation to the company for its commitment to the cause of the match each year. He said the Association would ensure that, the money was used judiciously to ensure the success of the match. Mr Anthony said, the soccer fans would witness a tough encounter between the two sides judging from their performance in the premiership. He appealed to the management of SIC to make the expansion of the event into a four club competition a reality.

The SWAG president called on soccer fans to fill the stands at the Baba Yara Stadium to witness good football and cheer their respective teams to victory. Kotok has won the competition on ten occasions whilst Ashgold are three time champions.
