Rowdysm condemed

Accra, Feb. 23, GNA - Mr Joseph Dowuona, Coach of Kwaebibirem Fire Stars, a division two club of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has condemned the rowdyism exhibited by spectators when his club played against Great Wonders three weeks ago at Fodua, near Nkawkaw. He said the playing body and club officials were forced to flee into the bush when the scores at the time of the nasty incident were 2-1 in favour of Fire Stars.

Mr Dowuona, who was narrating his ordeal to the GNA Sports at the club's training grounds in Accra, said immediately the referee brought proceedings to an end, supporters of the home team charged on them with sticks and other implements injuring some of the players and officials. He said; "We did not understand what was happening when we suddenly saw people running into various ways and but for the smartness of some of the players who run into the Fire Service bus I can't imagine what would have happened."

He called on the Regional Football Association (RFA) to check such rowdyism in other not to affect the general performance of the league. The incident has since been reported to the Nkawkaw Police.

Division 2

Accra, Feb. 23, GNA - Bubiashie Surprising Stars grabbed the maximum three points when they beat Bravo Bravo 2-0 at Okwahu Park at Bubiashie in their second division league encounter on Saturday. The first half saw a balanced game but Surprising Stars sprang into action after the recess and managed to take the lead in the 50th minute from the personal effort of Eric Addo.

Emmanuel Opoku, in the 85th minute made victory certain for his side when he delivered a powerful shot to the blind side of the goalkeeper Aziz Kotei to increase the homesters tally to two.

Aziz Kotei in an attempt to save a sticky situation clashed with an opponent and collapsed during injury time and was replaced by Emmanuel Martey.
