Rio 2016: Team Ghana will be paid – MOYS

Rio 2016: Team Ghana Rio 2016: Team Ghana

The Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS), Otor Plahar, has disclosed that the Ministry is working hard to pay athletes representing the country at the Rio Olympics.

There have been reports that the country’s athletes at the games have not been paid their per diem. But team captain John Ampomah has said they are not in Rio for the money but for the experience.

Speaking to Class Sports, Mr Plahar said arrangements had been made to pay the athletes.

“I am sure the Ministry has already worked on it. It’s been wired through to our embassy in Brazil to be given to them and I even saw a letter to that effect, so I’m sure any moment from now they should be able to get it,” he stated, adding: “We are trying to avoid carrying money to the place so, I think by today they should receive the cash; there is no cause for alarm. It’s been a difficult time for all of us but all is well,” he said.

Ghana has already seen four athletes exit the competition after swimmers Kaya Forson and Abeiku Jackson were eliminated together with judoka Szandra Szogedi and boxer Oumar Wahid.
